Rave Reviews for Winter Musical

Once Upon a Mattress a hit with audiences!

The MHS Theater Ensemble pulled off a trifecta of show-stopping performances this weekend, presenting the winter musical Once Upon a Mattress to rave reviews.

This Theater Ensemble production had it all — a bold and talented cast and crew, amazing voices, polished acting, intricate choreography, timely comedy, and evocative imagery — even a surprise appearance by Kim Boland, our multi-talented Horizons Advisor, Coach, and DE&I Coordinator. Congrats to Director of Theater and Dance Jenni Jordan and her team for another outstanding production!

This MHS production starred Aurora Song ’26 as Princess Winnifred, Kyla Gore ’24 as Prince Dauntless, Sutra Chakma ’24 as Queen Aggravain, and EA Peña ’25 as King Sextimus. The show also featured Assia Rassulkyzy ’25 as Sir Harry, Shirley Dong ’23 as Lady Larken, Kat Lunden ’25 as the Wizard, Welmerly Maria ’24 as the Jester, Ella Tawes ’24 as the Minstrel, and Maddie Tillem ’24 as the Nightingale.

Performing as Ladies and Knights were Molly Casey ’24, Jaimie Corpuz ’26, Emilie Coziol-Desy ’25, Lizzy Jutras ’26, Bianca Kerr ’23, Iva Knezevic ’24, Inyene Abasi-Bell ’25, Emily Meng ’23, Maddie Tillem ’24, and Wenna Nielsen ’26.

The musical was directed and choreographed by MHS Theater and Dance Teacher Jenni Jordan. Emilie Coziol-Desy ’25 provided additional choreography. Tati Kheyfets ’23, Carrie Zhou ’24, and Mackenzie Ennis ’24 were the stage managers; Izzy Aponte ’26, Fiona Lu ’26, Sophia Tillem ’24, Lu Hoyes-Gbewonyo ’26, assisting with costumes, props, and lobby design; Catherine Yang ’23 was the Light Board Operator, and Lilith Ladouceur-Murray ’26 was a Spot Operator. Joe Rose was the Musical Director, Yolanda Zhang ’23 was Rehearsal Pianist, and Katie Freeman Polebaum was the Set and Lighting Designer.
