National Merit Commended Students Named

Congratulations to Selina Li ’21 and Jiho Shin ’21, who have been named Commended Students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The designation means that Selina and Jiho placed among the top 5 percent of the more than 1.5 million students who took the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, or PSAT/NMSQT and entered the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards.

The honor also recognizes their academic promise and exceptional performances on the exam, noted the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program.

In addition to their academic achievements, both Selina and Jiho are active members of the MHS community. Selina is the founder and leader of the Miss Hall’s Young Historian Society and is a co-founder and co-leader of the Miss Hall’s Media Team. She helped start the Miss Hall’s Technovation Team and was a co-leader last year, and she is the leader of the LAB$ Business Club. Selina is also helping to organize the first TEDxyouth@Miss Hall’s School event and is a member of the MHS Vocal Ensemble, Math Team, and Brain Bee team.

Jiho is executive editor of Girls Right the World, an international literary journal at MHS, and she served last year as the co-Head of the School’s Diversity Coalition and was a representative to the 2019 Student Diversity Leadership Conference. She is also co-Head of the Grace Notes a cappella group, a member of the International Student Alliance (ISA), and a Writing Peer Tutor, and was previously a mentor in the Big & Little Program.

Well done, Selina and Jiho!
