Food from Six Continents!
Fueling International Student Alliance Week
It wouldn’t be December at Miss Hall’s without ISA Week, which culminates in Intercultural Student Alliances (ISA) Greetings and Performances that are, for many, a highlight of the year.
In advance of that global celebration, we celebrate our global community all week long with international lunch and dinner menus featuring special dishes prepared by the MHS Culinary Team, using students’ recipes from home. Over the course of five days, we enjoyed food from six continents!
“With over 32 countries identified at Miss Hall’s, we take time to ‘serve-up’ home in a very special way,” notes Miss Hall’s Director of Culinary Russ Sawicki. “As students get ready to go home, we take this week to celebrate each other and our homes, presenting meals from every country identified at our school. Culinary celebrates the diversity and inclusiveness of Miss Hall’s and eagerly presents this year’s ISA Week Menu!”
Throughout the week, we were treated to amazing dishes, including: xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) from China, bun moc (meatball noodle soup) from Vietnam, pad krapow (basil chicken) from Thailand, tteokbokki(spicy rice cakes) from South Korea, sarma (sour cabbage rolls) from Serbia, pelmeni (meat dumplings) from Russia, kibinas (meat pastries) from Lithuania, pesto pasta from Italy, Käsespätzle (cheese noodles) from Germany, paella from Spain, poutine from Canada, and patatas bravas from Spain. And, that was just the first two days!
Wednesday and Thursday featured Bengali coconut shrimp from Bangladesh, shawarma (spiced meat) from Jordan, Kugel (noodle pudding) from Israel, sancocho (seven-meat stew) from the Dominican Republic, ital stew from Jamaica, Brazilian stroganoff, pholourie (split pea fritters) from Trinidad & Tobago, Ghanaian chicken waakye, poulet dg (chicken and plantain) from Cameroon, maharagwe (coconut bean stew) from Kenya, and more! Friday featured a U.S. menu — burgers, fries, salmon, mac and cheese, and brownies!
From special foods to special performances, we closed out the last full week before Winter Break on a high note!
