Alumnae summer series edifies and connects

A virtual classroom gave alumnae the chance to stay connected — and learn from their peers

Summer 2020 featured our first virtual Summer School series, with four empowering gatherings requested by MHS alumnae eager to stay energized, learning, and connected to each other. This series was underwritten by the Lily Auchincloss Foundation.

We began in July doing qi gong with Lydia Wiston Haid ’89, and thereafter we learned about gender and race in photojournalism with Alissa Schapiro ’06, Expressive Arts Chair Sophie Lane ’96, MHS Dean of Equity and Inclusion Paula Lima Jones, and Andrea Zhang ’18.

We then “raced” with sailors and trustees Robin Brown Woods ’58, Alice Butler Burnham ’65, and Beth Welch Gustafson ’88 as we talked about the bold, all-female crew featured in the documentary Maiden.

The series concluded with a glorious tour of Trustee Emeritus Lee Auchincloss Link ’61's beautifully designed hillside garden in Sharon, CT. A recording of that tour is below. A huge thank you to our presenters and a gold star to all those who showed up for class.
