Student leaders launch initiative to help future students in need
As they prepared to graduate, School Vice President Truc Hoang ’22 and President Cailyn Tetteh ’22 wanted to leave a permanent mark at MHS with a project they worked on nearly their entire time at the School.
During the spring of their sophomore year, they proposed an initiative to help community members facing financial hardship due to COVID-19. Contributions to the Community Action Fund from Miss Hall's friends and family around the world made possible 83 grants to support community members during the pandemic.
Thinking about the legacy they wanted to leave, Truc and Cailyn set out to establish a permanent fund to help MHS students in need get through tough times such as unanticipated travel home, bereavement costs, unexpected medical expenses etc. Their goal was to establish an endowed Student Emergency Endowment Fund that will exist in perpetuity, grow over time, and provide direct relief to students into the future.
$50,000 Goal
To do so, we need to raise $50,000 to establish this endowment. While it is an ambitious goal, more than $21,000 has already been committed, including gifts from the Classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024.
We are confident we can do it if everyone pitches in! Together, we can give MHS students a sense of security, knowing that there is a specific place to turn to when the unexpected happens.
"If there’s one thing we learned about philanthropy at MHS, it’s that the spirit of generosity is powerful. Please write Student Emergency Endowment Fund in the comments box to make sure your gift is properly designated. Thank you in advance for your contribution!"
