The Writing Center, aka the Writer’s Room, is a welcoming, comfortable and supportive space for every writer in our community located in the Humes Euston Hall Library.
Staffed by members of the faculty, the center offers several hours a week of one-on-one writing support during the school day. Students sign up or drop into TWR for feedback and advising on all kinds of writing - from Science papers and artists’ statements to term papers and college essays - at any stage in the writing process.
Each session is driven by the student’s priorities and goals, as staff members listen, ask questions, and offer feedback. By bringing their ideas and writing to the center, students become more attuned to writing for a reader and to approach their writing as a process of thinking, drafting, and revising.
The center often partners with teachers on specific writing projects, but all students are encouraged to use the center at any time. TWR staff members also reach out to all departments to encourage writing across the curriculum and a standard approach to teaching writing as a process. We also stress a standard and clearly defined approach to teaching research and citation.
TWR is committed to supporting every student in the school to develop and strengthen the written communication skills she will need in college and beyond.
