The MHS Graduate

A Miss Hall’s School graduate is a thinker, a creator, and a contributor to the common good. They are global citizens, self-aware, resilient, and courageous participants in a multicultural society. Empowered by skills and knowledge, the Miss Hall’s School graduate is able to solve problems with intellect and creativity while embracing a spirit of exploration and curiosity. Through their words and actions, and aligned with their core values, they are prepared to navigate varied contexts with the fluency, generosity of spirit, and wisdom to lead a purposeful life.
Guided by the mission and core values of Miss Hall’s School, our graduates will demonstrate the following core competencies:
  • Vision is the willingness to dream, imagine possibilities, conceive bold and ambitious goals, and set a course to achieve them. Young women with vision nurture curiosity, innovate, recognize opportunities, and act as allies for others.
  • Voice is the power to articulate ideas with authenticity and confidence. Young women with voice present themselves with integrity, communicate effectively, confidently advocate and negotiate, and demonstrate and command respect.

  • Interpersonal Efficacy is the intersection of empathy, self-awareness, and cultural competency.  Young women with interpersonal efficacy navigate diverse contexts with ease while maintaining consistency of character and building strong relationships and networks.
  • Gumption is the strength of mind and character to seek out challenges and grow from failure. Young women with gumption take calculated risks to create change, practice self-reflection, and distinguish the pursuit of one’s best self from the pressure for perfection.
The Girls’ Leadership Project (GLP) at Miss Hall's School is the ongoing exploration of what best helps girls become powerful, undeterred agents of their own futures. We believe that girls are the highest and best authorities on their own experience and that in order to lead in the future, they should begin by leading now. We provide girls with the knowledge and skills necessary to have influence in the world, and we give girls ample opportunities to find their voices and practice the confident, authentic engagement that will prepare them for lives of purpose. These beliefs inform all that we do, from the classroom to athletics and extracurricular activities, to Student Life programming, to our off-campus internship and experiential learning program, Horizons.

Horizons is one of only two comprehensive off-campus, experiential learning programs in independent education. Horizons is "learning by doing," considered part of the academic program, and required for graduation. The experiential, service-learning and internship program provides students with opportunities to volunteer and intern each week at local social service and cultural organizations, businesses, and professional offices. Along the way, they explore areas of possible college majors and career interests and pitch in to make their community a better place. Horizons takes place each Thursday during the school year at more than 75 sites throughout Berkshire County, and MHS students, contribute 12,000 hours annually to the local Berkshire Region.
