Julia Heaton became the Eleventh Head of Miss Hall’s School in July 2014. Prior to joining Miss Hall’s, Ms. Heaton served on the faculty and administration of Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School (LREI), a pre-K through 12th-grade school in Manhattan.
At LREI since 2004, Ms. Heaton was a high school English teacher, advisor, Academic Dean, and Director of Admissions. While at LREI, she increased high school applications by 50 percent and raised enrollment from 160 to 225 students, and she helped lead the high school through a significant expansion of the facilities, student body, and curriculum offerings. Ms. Heaton has also previously held faculty positions at The Chapin School, Manhattan Country School, and Prep for Prep, also in New York.
Ms. Heaton holds a B.A. in American Studies, with a concentration in African-American History, from Yale University. She also holds an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Columbia University Teachers College. She was selected as a member of the inaugural cohort of the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) Emerging Leadership Institute, a two-year leadership development program that she completed in August 2013. Fluent in three languages, Ms. Heaton also has a personal interest in the performing arts. Additionally, she and her husband are the proud parents of three daughters.
