Dear MHS Friends,
After thirty-three years of service at Miss Hall’s School, Pamela Breslin retired from her many roles in June 2017. How aptly fitting are the song lyrics of “One,” from A Chorus Line, “she walks into a room and you know, she's uncommonly rare, very unique, peripatetic, poetic and chic.”
Perhaps you recall an effortless conversation with Señora Breslin—her warm smile and her jaunty walk were contagious as she crossed the Living Room into the hallway at MHS. Maybe Señora Breslin introduced you to Spanish literature, or, to the Mexican art of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Perhaps you were already proficient in Spanish, and took ESL classes with her. Señora Breslin made sure there were plenty of learning opportunities on how to succeed in her classes as well as in life. She demanded that you were engaged in the present moment, asking questions, and allowing yourself to be an active participant, while confidently demonstrating your language proficiency. Her honesty was always tempered with a sense of humor and kindness in good measure.
Ultimately, Señora Breslin led by example. Behind-the-scenes, she raised the bar, maybe without you knowing! Maybe she was your advisor, full of confidence in your abilities and with tons of encouragement, especially when it got tough. Señora Breslin had a knack for making fantastic home-cooked meals in her Lenox home for her advisee dinners. Some included hearty soups, steamed artichokes, and warm bread that encouraged lively conversation in several languages around the table—quickly making you forget how homesick you were, almost by magic. From advocacy for international students, to college counseling, to the ISA, to supporting day students, she was an integral part of Miss Hall’s School.
We invite you now to make a contribution
to the 2017-2018 Annual Fund for MHS in honor of Pamela Breslin. This year, your contribution celebrates Señora Breslin’s legacy as a gifted teacher and role model while empowering MHS to continue to sustain and support extraordinary faculty talent. We also encourage you to share a memory of Señora Breslin and include this with your donation. We will announce the grand total of our gifts and present her with your memories during Alumnae Weekend, May 18-20, 2018. Please join us!
Simply, Pamela Breslin is “one, singular sensation!”
