The MHS Experience

Day Student Experience

MHS day students enjoy being part of a student body that’s rich in diversity and filled with girls who are serious about their academics, have high aspirations, and are active in the School community. As part of that community, our day students become involved in every aspect of school life. And, just as for boarding students, when classes end, their school day continues, too. The opportunities available after the academic day are among the many benefits of attending a boarding and day school.

By participating in afternoon and evening activities and being involved in weekend events, girls develop the friendships that last a lifetime. Most importantly, they reap the many benefits of learning in a community that is rich with connection. And it is those connections with peers and teachers in this boarding-day setting that are life-changing for girls.

  • Your Proctors

The seniors chosen as Proctors play an important role in the life of a day student. Whether acting as friends, allies, or role models, they help both new and returning students adjust to life at the School. The day student Proctors, along with the day student advisor, hold regualr meetings to discuss issues that specifically pertain to day students. They assist in proctoring study hall each evening. The entire community, both students and faculty, appreacite the Proctors' time and parternship. Proctorship is an honored position in the School. Each spring, junior girls interested in applying for proctorship attends workshops to help her gain knowledge about the role and determine if it is the right position for her.

  • Hosting a Friend

Do you want to have a friend join your family for game night? Are you spending Thanksgiving Break at home in the Berkshires and want to share all of your family's traditions with your classmate from Bhutan? Day students and their families have an excellent opportunity to share their culture and traditions by opening their home to girls from all over the world. In return, boarding students get to experience all that the Berkshires and New England have to offer, while enjoying the comfort of a day family's home. Whether it is for one night or one week, hosting a student will have a lasting impact on all.

  • Weekends as a Day Student

Day students have the same weekend opportunities as boarding students and are often on campus on weekends—playing sports, studying in the Library, participating in school-sponsored weekend outings, or having fun with friends. Sometimes weekend trips are taken to highlight the many off campus activities our day girls participate in. For example, in October girls watched a senior day student perform at The Colonial Theatre for Berkshire Dance Theatre as part of the "Made in the Berkshires Festival".
