Music Ensembles

Student musicians have the opportunity to perform in Music Ensembles organized by the Music Department. With a full year's participation in an ensemble, students have the opportunity to earn one-half academic credit. Music Ensembles may be taken as a credit-bearing course only in addition to the normal student course load.

List of 4 items.

  • Instrumental Ensembles

The exact nature of the instrumental ensemble is determined by the temperaments, inclinations, and abilities of the various players, as well as the size and instrumentation of the group. Past instrumental ensembles have included classical chamber ensembles of various sizes, rock bands that have performed a wide range of styles, and jazz ensembles performing a combo style of music that features improvisation. Ensembles perform on Classical Music Nights, Jazz and Rock Nights, and on other special occasions.
  • Grace Notes

Grace Notes is a student-selected and student-directed a cappella group that sings popular and classical songs. Membership, which is determined by the group in the spring, is an honor.
  • Private Music Instruction

More than 60 music lessons are scheduled each week at MHS.

Private instruction is offered in voice, instruments, music technology, and music theory/composition/ear training. The student also has the option of taking the lesson as a for-credit course. Lesson fees vary with the instructor, and a signed parental permission slip is required for all students taking lessons.
  • Vocal Ensemble

The Vocal Ensemble is a singing group open to all students. The group performs at a number of school events and participates in a coordinated concert each winter with other area schools.
