SOUNDS OF THE SEASON

Holiday Concert Sends Community to Winter Break

MHS musicians and vocalists closed out the pre-Winter Break festivities on Monday night, sending the community off in song with the annual Holiday Concert. The program in Centennial Hall featured duet and group performances for an audience of students, faculty, and visitors.
 
The event began with two traditional carols — O Come All Ye Faithful and Good King Wenceslas— performed by a violin and piano ensemble. The group featured violinists Ria Kedia ’20, Faia Kronick ’19, Maggie Bullock ’22, Soleil Laurin ’20, Calla Gong ’21, and Celcie Tetteh ’21 and pianist Wendy Wang ’20.
 
Bethany Song ’20 and Keer Liu ’19, accompanied on piano by Director of Music Debbie Duff, then took to the stage to sing “Later” by Rene Liu. Andi Loehr ’19 and Allie Lamke ’19 followed by singing “Love Song,” from Pippin, also to an accompaniment by Ms. Duff.
 
The MHS Vocal Ensemble then performed three songs, Shalom; Fum, Fum, Fum, a traditional Spanish Carol; and A Joyful Noel, a traditional English Carol. The ensemble features Sarah Briggs ’21, Daisy Feng ’22, Truc Hoang ’22, Lanyi Jin ’22, Anna Le ’19, Christy Liang ’19, Keer Liu ’19, Annie Lombardi ’20, Mili Madourie ’22, Yuka Nakano ’20, Juju Qiu ’21, Ensemble co-President Serena Rice ’20, Jiho Shin ’21, co-President Bethany Song ’20, Brooke Telfer ’21, Dorit Wang ’21, Luna Wang ’21, Scarlett Wang ’19, Yuki Wei ’20, Jacqueline Yang ’22, Catherine Zhang ‘19, Jingtong Zhang ’20, and Ivy Zhou ’22. For the final song, the ensemble was accompanied by Daisy on flute and Instrumental Music Instructor Amy Renak on piano.
 
The evening’s final songs came from Grace Notes, the School’s a cappella group, featuring Emily Carmel ’20, Allie Lamke ’19, Chelsie Li ’21, Andi Loehr ’19, co-Head Merriam Lrhazi ’19, Erica Morales-Armstrong ’20, co-Head Ingrid O’Dell ’19, Kate Nguyen ’20, Ainsley Schuth ’19, Evelyn Stewart ’20, and Riagain Wiley ’20. The group performed S’Vivon and That’s Christmas to Me, then the lights in Centennial Hall were dimmed, and the performance closed with The Hanukkah Celebration and O! Holy Night! sung by candlelight.
