Congratulations to the MHS Theater Ensemble for its fall production of Decision Height, a timely, insightful, and thought-provoking show that closed, appropriately enough, on Veterans Day. The production was fabulous, and the actors, under the direction of Theater and Dance Teacher Jen Jordan, were outstanding.
Decision Height tells the story of Virginia Hascall, who has left her home and fiancée to join the WASPs, female pilots whose noncombat service during World War II helped the Allies defeat the Axis powers. As Virginia contemplates a life-altering decision, she and her fellow trainees overcome their initial discomfort with each other to form a sisterhood and, ultimately, discover what it means to be a woman in the military and their essential role in wartime.
This MHS production starred Hannah Holt ’21 as Virginia Hascall and, as fellow WASP trainees and pilots, Erica Morales-Armstrong ’20 as Edith “Eddie Harknell,” Ainsley Schuth ’19 as Norma Jean Harris, Emily Carmel ’20 as Rosalie Harston, Jasmine Briggs ’19 as Alice Hawkins; and Keely O’Gorman ’22 as Carol Henderson.
The cast also included Trudy Fadding ’19 as Mrs. Deaton, the trainees’ “den mother;” Betty Xiao ’20 as flight instructor Ziggie Lewis; and Chelsea Li ’21 as trainee Mildred Simmons. Additionally, the show’s ensemble featured Rose Battista ’19, Sarah Briggs ’21, Bella D’Aniello ’22, Soleil Laurin ’20, Linda Le ’21, Halie Swallie ’22, and Ivy Zhou ’22.
The production’s technical crew included Stage Managers Ingrid O’Dell ’19 and Faia Kronick ’19; Costume Assistants Matilda Tran ’20, Lilian Jiang ’21, and Meriel Nguyen ’20; and Props Assistants Mere Hall ’20 and Milie Madourie ’22.
Maia Robbins-Zust oversaw set and lighting design, while costumes and costume design were handled by Ms. Jordan and Kathy Kearns. Annie Lombardi ’20 operated the light board, Cailyn Tetteh ’22 was Box Office Manager, Instrumental Music Instructor Rob Sanzone coordinated sound setup, and Zoe Yang ’19 designed the program’s Cover Art.
Great job, everyone!
