The School’s talented expressive arts students presented another memorable evening of performances during the recent Classical Music Night in Centennial Hall. In all, about a dozen students took to the stage to sing or perform as instrumentalists during the evening, which featured works by Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and others.
The Miss Hall’s Chamber Ensemble, directed by Instrumental Music Instructor Bing Liu, opened the evening’s program with “Allegro,” from Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, followed by Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major. The ensemble featured Sue Shu ’18 on flute, Faia Kronick ’19 and Soleil Laurin ’20 on violin, Sophie Xu ’18 on piano, and Ms. Liu on Viola.
Violinist Calla Gong ’21, accompanied by pianist Wendy Wang ’20 and violinists Faia, Soleil, and Ms. Liu, followed with the Suzuki Allegro and the traditional Scarborough Fair. Pianist Lilian Jiang ’21 then delivered the evening’s first solo performance, Lady Allyson’s Minuet, by Robert Vandall, and Ingrid O’Dell ’19 followed with the evening’s only vocal performance, singing Giuseppe Torelli’s Tu lo sai to a piano accompaniment from Director of Music Debbie Duff.
Pianist Amanda Xu ’19 performed Chopin’s Waltz in C# minor and was followed by Faia, who returned to the stage on violin and was accompanied by Ms. Liu on violin and Wendy on piano while performing Ignace Pleyel’s Piano Trio, Op. 8, No. 1. Pianist Catherine Zhang ’19 then performed the “Allegro” from Beethoven’s Sonata, Op. 31, No. 3.
The quartet of Ria Kedia ’20 on violin, Trudy Fadding ’19 on cello, Catherine on piano, and Ms. Liu on viola then closed the evening with the “Allegro” from Mozart’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, K. 478.
It was a well-prepared, well-performed, and well-attended evening!
