There was plenty of holiday spirit to be found during the annual MHS Holiday Concert held on December 14 in Centennial Hall. The hour-long program featured impressive solo and group performances of popular and holiday songs for an audience of students, faculty, and visitors.
The program opened with three popular selections: Allie Lamke ’19 sang “Feed the Birds,” from Mary Poppins; Anna Kim ’18 sang Clarity; and Riagain Wiley ’20, sang “I Could Have Danced All Night,” from My Fair Lady. All were accompanied by Director of Music Debbie Duff on piano.
Tiffany Luu ’18, on vocals and ukulele, Bella Currie ’18, on vocals and bass ukulele, and Kate Nguyen ’20, on tambourine, then opened the holiday portion of the show by performing George Michael’s Last Christmas, followed by the vocal trio of Olivia Kinne ’18, Madison Bellemare ’18, and Bella, who were accompanied by Ms. Duff as they sang The Christmas Song, by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells.
The MHS Vocal Ensemble, directed by Ms. Duff, then took the stage. The group began with an Israeli dance song, Artza Alinu, followed by All on a Silent Night. The ensemble — led by co-Presidents Tiffany and Kate and featuring Emily Carmel ’20, Zoe Hypolite ’19, Anna Le ’19, Chelsie Li ’21, Keer Liu ’19, Tram Nguyen ’18, Martina Orbea ’21, Juju Qiu ’21, Rea Rice ’20, Renee Wang ’18, Catherine Zhang ’19, and Jingtong Zhang ’20 — closed its set with the popular All I Want for Christmas Is You.
The evening’s final songs came from Grace Notes, the School’s a cappella group, led by tri-Heads Madison, Bella, and Olivia and featuring Allie, Andi Loehr ’19, Merriam Lrhazi ’19, Ingrid O’Dell ’19, Ainsley Schuth ’19, and Riagain. They began their set with the popular Hanukkah song S’Vivon, followed by White Winter Hymnal. The hall’s lights were then dimmed, and the group closed the evening in candlelight, singing Mary, Did You Know? The Hanukkah Celebration, and O! Holy Night.
It was a wonderful way to usher in the holidays and prepare for Winter Break. Thank you, MHS musicians and vocalists!
