We strongly recommend that all students bring a new or recent laptop running Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac OS. The difference between Windows and Mac largely comes down to personal preference.
The MacBook and MacBook Air are some of the most popular computers on campus and may be purchased at a discounted educational rate from Apple at the following URL: http://store.apple.com/us-hed
The following list of recommended specs should be considered when deciding what PC or Mac to purchase:
- Processor: Intel i5/m5 or i7/m7
- RAM: 8GB or more
- Screen: 12″ or larger
- Antivirus: Recommended for PCs and Macs (Avast Free Antivirus is a good option)
- Operating System: Windows 10 / Mac OS 10.10 (or higher)
- Hard Drive: 256 GB or larger Solid State Drive (SSD) recommended
Chromebooks are another option and work very well for the majority of a student’s work. However, they may not be able to run some of the software used in the Honors Geometry and Songwriting classes.
For those that don’t bring a laptop, there are currently 16 desktop computers available for student use in the library, and desktop computers are available for short-term use in other locations on campus based on class enrollment and schedules. These computers are for school related work only and are not to be used for social media or recreation.
